It is the producer Jean-Luc Azoulay who announced his death: “She had a fragile health for some time. She was a true artist, a wonderful girl. She was a singer and writer for ‘Hélène et les garçons’ in particular. We are very sad.” Emmanuelle Mottaz, her real name, died on March 16 in a Paris hospital, she was 59 years old.

The star of the 80s and 90s was part of the AB Productions galaxy. The company of Jean-Luc Azoulay dominated the sector of programs for children and teenagers, with Le club Dorothée or series like Premiers baisers and Hélène et les garçons.

After having accompanied Dorothée in the song “Allô allô monsieur l’ordinateur” (she was the robotic voice of the computer), Emmanuelle had a solo success in 1986 with the title “Premier baiser”, also released by AB Productions.

This bluette modelled on the slows of the 60s sold 700,000 copies and reached the second place of the Top 50. The song was then used as the theme song for the series “Premiers baisers”, which ran from 1991 to 1995. In 1987, Emmanuelle was again successful with the song “Rien que toi pour m’endormir”. Afterwards, her singing career had dried up and she had turned to writing scripts for AB Productions and then directing short films and photography.

Jamaica’s Minister of Culture, Olivia Grande, said on X (ex-Twitter) that he had died at the University of Miami Hospital in Florida, the same city where Bob Marley died in 1981.

Born on November 22, 1946 in Kingston, Jamaica, Aston Barrett was “a pioneer, a mentor and above all a true family man”, write the Wailers on Facebook. His nickname “Familyman” came from the fact that he was said to have several dozen children.

He was a man of few words, but his lyrics were full of wisdom, kindness and love. His bass lines were not only the foundation of the Wailers’ music, but also the beat of a genre that touched hearts across the globe ».

The Wailers asked that their privacy and that of Familyman’s family be respected.

In 2006, Aston Barrett sued Island Records, claiming £60 million in unpaid royalties. However, he lost the case. He put an end to his musical career in 2019.
