Harry and Meghan now without a home in the UK: King Charles III has withdrawn the use of Frogmore Cottage, their British residence, from the couple who left for the United States after the publication of the prince’s vengeful book, British media reported Wednesday. According to The Sun and The Telegraph, Buckingham Palace has sent an “eviction notice” to the couple, who left the UK in 2020 with a bang and have been making attacks on the monarchy ever since.

Frogmore Cottage, a 5-bedroom residence located near Windsor Castle in West London, had been granted to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex by Elizabeth II in 2018 as a wedding gift. The renovation work carried out by the couple for more than 2 million euros at the expense of the taxpayer had shocked, and Prince Harry had to repay them once his departure with Meghan Markle acted.

According to The Sun, Charles III has not offered the Sussexes new homes, thus depriving them of any royal address during their rare trips to the United Kingdom, a decision that sounds like a punishment after Harry published his book “The Substitute” at the beginning of January, in which he settles his accounts with his family. In it, he recounts a violent argument with his older brother William, the heir to the throne, about his wife Meghan, and accuses Queen Consort Camilla of having revealed private conversations to the press.

This decision may aggravate conflicts within the institution, while the couple is already challenging in court the withdrawal of their special police protection. With two months to go before the King’s coronation, the question of Harry and Meghan’s presence at the ceremony is still not officially decided, although some media outlets report that they have been invited.

According to The Sun, the king has asked Prince Andrew to live at Frogmore Cottage to reduce the lifestyle of his younger brother, who currently lives at the luxurious Royal Lodge in Windsor. Andrew has fallen from grace after accusations of sexual assault and his friendship with the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein, convicted of sexual abuse of minors. The king would thus consider withdrawing his annual allowance of 250,000 pounds.

Contacted by AFP, Buckingham Palace did not wish to comment on this information.
